Morning flight to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Assistance upon arrival. Meet your driver / guide and depart to Santa Fe (65 miles). check-in at your hotel for 2 nights. Walking tour of legendary Santa Fe, a place for artists and art or craft collectors. The atmosphere and the colorful scenery are exceptional!
Day at leisure to explore Santa Fe and its plethora of Art Galleries and museums. The history of this small and colorful town which is now the Capital of New Mexico, goes back to 1610 and mixes the Native American culture to the Hispanic and Anglo American one. Marketplaces, art galleries, old adobe Pueblo style houses are side by side with restaurants and cafes. Do not miss the Georgia O”Keefe Museum, a legacy to the artist who is considered the mother of American Modernism, nor Canyon Road the iconic gallery street.
Morning drive to cover the 200 miles which will take you first to Gallup, then to the Zuni Pueblo also known as the Halona Pueblo. At Idiwan’a you will meet the Zuni people who live in a very similar way like they did in 1539 when the first Europeans arrived. The Zuni People with a population around 6000 are considered to be descendants of Ancient Poebloans who were the Native Americans living in the South West when the Spaniards arrived. They were farmers cultivating mostly maize, making jewelry and trading turquoise for over a thousand years.
Morning drive after breakfast for about 3 hours to meet with another native American culture represented by the Hopi Indians. The Hopi tribe are peace-loving people. They kept their culture intact mostly because they lived in remote and isolated areas of Northern Arizona. Each village has its chief and spiritual leader. They are famous for their Kachina Dolls which represent the spirits of various animals or natural elements such as rain, protection, or fertility and will have magic and powers to bring rain, wellbeing or good crops to the Hopi tribe. Afternoon tour of Hopi land.
Back on the road to see amazing desert, canyons and mountain landscapes. The views of Utah’s rugged scenery are stunning. Natural erosion has carved Nature with the forces of the winds and waters. The beauty of the red rocks’ sculptures culminates at Bryce Canyon which in fact is not a single canyon but a series of natural amphitheatres which were carved along millions of years into the eastern flank of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The spires of rocks are called hoodoos. Your visit will include several of the view points. The panoramas will surpass your expectations.
Only 73 miles from Bryce is Zion National Park. Here also the red rock formations were created by wind, snow, rains. The Virgin River flows at the bottom of the canyon. Its name, Zion, was given by the first Morman pioneers who came in the area in the 1860s and were so stunned by the beauty of the place that they named it after the old testament name for the City of Jerusalem and the Promised Land.
Today’s drive will take you towards one of the natural Wonders of the World, a World! Heritage Site by Unesco since 1979. The park celebrated its 100th anniversary on February 26, 2019. Carved by the Colorado River it is the most grandiose and spectacular gorge in the world with its 0.9 miles depth. Its width ranges between 0.3 miles to 18.6 miles. The Colorado River twists and turns for 275.5 miles at the bottom. And the geological formation lasted for more than 6 millions years. Afternoon tour and hiking along the south rim.
Morning free time to enjoy the grandiose scenery of the Canyon and departure after lunch for las Vegas, a 280 miles drive. You will stop for photos at the Hoover Dam. Welcome to the City of show business and gambling casinos. After a drive along the strip passing all the famous hotels and casinos you will check in at your hotel for a couple of nights.
You can try your luck at one or several of the famous casinos: MGM Grand, Bellagio, The Stratosphere or The Venitian for example. There is more: a new influx of gourmet restaurants and art venues attracting those who love music, good food or more cultural events.
