In the morning, we drive to Jerez de La Frontera, about 1½ hours where we’ll spend the day visiting the town and visiting a sherry cellar to learn about the methods of production of this world-famous fortified wine.
We’ll visit the local market and then have a cooking demonstration by the chef of La Carbona Restaurant. A local family found this old winery, where the treasures of Marco de Jerez were stored. The son of the Muñoz Soto family, Chef Javier, has found inspiration for his cuisine within its walls at his atmospheric restaurant nestled under rustic wooden beams.
We’ll enjoy a cooking demonstration by the chef followed by lunch based on the use of sherry of course accompanied by sherry in its varied forms. Guests will receive recipes so they can recreate the dishes back at home, perhaps accompanied by a bottle of Jerez wine brought back from here.
We return to Seville and have the evening at leisure for tapas and more wine or dinner and a stroll through the town.
Meals: B, L | Hotel NH Amistad Córdoba 4*
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and depart for beautiful Cordoba for a fascinating day exploring the influence of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity there.
We visit La Mezquita (a former mosque), the Old Town, the Alcázar de Los Reyes Cristianos and the historic Jewish quarter. We will be led by a guide who has expert knowledge of Cordoba’s Jewish heritage.
Our sumptuous lunch at Casa Mazal (House of Good Luck) will be a beautifully-presented selection of typical Sephardic dishes. A performance of the hauntingly beautiful music of the Sephardim (Jews of Spanish origin) will help bring this culture to life.
After checking into our hotel in Cordoba for one night, the remainder of the day will be at leisure.
Meals: B, L | Hotel Huerta De Las Palomas 4*
In the morning, we depart for Baena where we’ll visit the Olive Oil Museum, naturally including an olive oil tasting and the typical dish of Salmorejo (tomato and olive oil creamy cold soup).
On to Zuheros where we’ll visit the cheese producer, Quesería de la Sierra Subbética.
Lunch will be at Zuhayra Restaurant and will feature local products like cod, chickpeas, pine nuts, oxtail, and “Flores”: flower-shaped honey-dipped pastry.
After this royal lunch, we leave for the typical little Andalucian town of Priego de Cordoba, about 30 minutes away.

After breakfast, we depart for a morning drive to Ronda, a drive of about 2¾ hours, where we’ll see its famous bridge.
Next, we visit an organic winery, Cellar Joaquim Fernandez, where we’ll taste four organic wines along with an appetizer followed by lunch in the vineyard. In Ronda, warm Mediterranean highland climate and the stronger cooler Atlantic influences make the highland, sustainable, craft wines of Ronda unique. The phylloxera virus in the 19th century wiped out the original vines, but in 1986 the first new Ronda vineyard was established. Now there are nearly 30 new vineyards scattered about the countryside.
After lunch, we will have a guided tour of Ronda, one of the most remarkable medieval towns in Spain.
We continue onto beautiful coastal Malaga, a drive of about 1¾ hours, and check in to the charming Hotel Molina Lario, just a few steps away from the Cathedral; here we spend our last two nights in Andalucia.

We’ll tour the Castle of Gibralfaro and the Alcazaba, the fortress and royal residence, originally built in the eleventh century by the Muslim rulers. We’ll see the Church of Santiago (Saint James), an example of Gothic vernacular Mudéjar, the hybrid style combining elements from Christian and Islamic traditions that evolved after the Reconquista.
